Special Events, Undercover, Vice, Bike Patrol, and SWAT Among San Diego Police Department Units That Received Operational and Immersive Training on Mobile Tactical Collaboration System™ and AdvanTraq™ GPS to Enhance Police Operations and Officer Safety
SDPD’s Gaslamp Mardi Gras MTCS Workspace San Diego, CA, and Vienna, VA, 27 February 2009 – Ordia Solutions, the leading provider of tightly integrated, real-time, mobile, and interoperable command and control systems for first responders and their chain of command, announces the successful deployment of its next-generation Mobile Tactical Collaboration System™ (MTCS) and AdvanTraq™ GPS personnel locators by the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) to secure the 2009 Gaslamp Mardi Gras Parade, and to train several police units throughout Mardi Gras Week.
As tens of thousands of revelers flocked the historic Gaslamp District for the 15th Annual Gaslamp Mardi Gras Parades, San Diego Police led a task force of hundreds of sworn personnel and private security to ensure the enjoyment and safety for all. “One of the challenges commanders face in large crowd special event situations is locating key teams and team leaders in the crowd in real-time”, said Cheryl Meyers, Assistant Chief, Special Operations Division, San Diego Police Department. “Whether managing the security operations for a special event, conducting specialized unit patrol, or performing tactical operations, Ordia Solutions’ integrated tactical planning, team collaboration, and personnel location system has shown the potential to significantly enhance a commander’s ability to execute verifiable command decisions while shortening the decision / action cycle.”
“In prior years, a two-officer patrol team handling an escalating altercation at one corner of an intersection may not be aware that additional officers were mere feet away due to the size and density of the crowd at that particular point,” said Joe E. Ordia, Chairman and CEO, Ordia Solutions. “Using the integrated MTCS and AdvanTraq GPS system, 2009 Gaslamp Mardi Gras Special Events commanders enhanced their situational awareness of field personnel and experienced marked improvement in operational effectiveness as well as crowd and officer safety.”

About Mobile Tactical Collaboration System™ & AdvanTraq™ GPS
Ordia Solutions’ Mobile Tactical Collaboration System™ (MTCS) and AdvanTraq™ GPS (AGPS) form the only product suite on the market that integrates all three key command and control functions: operations planning, real-time collaboration, and “blue force” GPS tracking into an easy-to-use, ready-out-of-the-box solution. Based on advanced concepts developed under the US Defense Department’s “Command Post of the Future” program, MTCS and AGPS offer law enforcement and other first-responders a military-grade command and control capability at a price point that is affordable by most medium to large-sized public safety agencies.
MTCS is designed to be used by first responders at the furthest reaches up and down the chain of command using mobile computers, handheld devices in the field & at operations centers. MTCS facilitates the tactical management of complex operations and allows senior leadership to share multiple operating pictures between several agencies and jurisdictions. AdvanTraq™ GPS gives commanders the ability to know in real-time exactly where forces are deployed in relation to the incident site, infrastructures, support elements, and each other. MTCS is the total solution for tactical planning, special events security management, and multi-agency tactical information sharing.
Officer Safety & Privacy – The AdvanTraq GPS personnel locator is equipped with a distress signal key. When depressed, an alert notification symbol is sent to the MTCS mapping imagery within seconds, enabling the MTCS operator to quickly pinpoint the location of the distressed officer, to know whether the officer is stationary or on the move, to assess the nature of the distress, and to dispatch appropriate resources to that officer. A privacy feature of AdvanTraq GPS is its On / Off switch. While the unit is expected to be in the “On” position during active police operations, it can be turned “Off” when the officer is off duty. In that case, the GPS tracker is “frozen” in the last “On” position on the electronic map with a status indicator suggesting it is in an inactive state. This feature set provides enhanced safety and privacy control at the officer’s finger tip.
